Following programs offer discounts to facilitate the access to solar energy, solar panels and others solar power solutions in the New South Wales, Australia.

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) In NSW

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) in New South Wales (NSW) represent a financial incentive under Australia’s Renewable Energy Target (RET) program, in the effort to further reducing the initial costs of  rooftop solar, solar hot water system, and heat pumps. Every STC represents 1 MWh of renewable energy anticipated to be generated over up to 15 years, with STC numbers varying according to system size, location, and installation date. In order to qualify, a system must be installed by a Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited person, using approved solar components, and meeting Small Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) guidelines.

Australia is divided into Four Solar Zones  based on solar radiation intensity, NSW is under the solar zone-3. A 6.6kW solar panel system in NSW is providing approx $2160 STC Rebate in 2025.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The Federal Solar Battery Rebate is a $2.3 billion subsidy scheme by the Australian Government, officially known as the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. It is a nationwide solar battery incentive designed to accelerate battery adoption across Australia to reduce home battery installation costs by around 30%. This government solar battery rebate aims to support over one million new battery installations across Australia by 2030, and it is the expansion of the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which has driven solar uptake since 2011.

Solar for Apartments Grant

The NSW Government providing 50% of total cost up to $150,000 of installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in the Apartment Complex under the Solar for Apartment Residents (SoAR) Grant Program. This initiative benefits residents, including renters, by helping to lower energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project has started on 28 February 2025 and the project must be completed by 31 March 2026.

Smart Distributed Batteries Project

Offered exclusively under the auspices of New South Wales’ first government-funded Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is a discount of $4,950 on Tesla Powerwall 2 under the Smart Distributed Batteries Projects. The project is funded by a $5.4 million grant earmarked for a 6MW VPP while facilitating attractive offers for the adoption of batteries.

So far, as of January 2025, two-thirds of the project have been completed, with 4.267 MW already being installed and connected. Full commissioning is expected by mid-2025, and it is therefore the call of the hour to invest in a high-quality battery at below-market price.
