About BYD

.BYD (Build Your Dreams) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of rechargeable batteries. The company entered the Australian residential battery market in 2017 with the launch of the “B-Box,” now known as the BYD Battery-Box. This stackable, modular system is available in both high-voltage and low-voltage configurations.

BYD controls the entire battery supply chain, from raw materials to battery cells and complete battery packs. Its products are widely used in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. Although often overshadowed by Tesla in media coverage, BYD is a global leader in battery production and electric vehicle manufacturing.

What is a BYD Battery and How Does It Work?

A BYD Battery is a type of solar energy storage system. It works by storing the extra electricity your solar panels make during the day, so you can use it later when the sun isn’t shining like in the evening, on cloudy days, or during a power blackout.

Here’s how it works in simple steps:

  1. Your solar panels collect energy from the sun during the day.
  2. That energy powers your home or business.
  3. Any extra energy goes into your BYD Battery.
  4. When your solar panels stop working at night, your home or business uses the stored energy from the battery.
  5. If your battery runs out, you’ll automatically switch to grid power.

This means you’ll rely less on electricity from the grid, save money on your power bills, and always have backup power when you need it.

Different Types of BYD Batteries Available in Australia

At Aussie Solar Tech, we offer several BYD battery models to suit different homes, businesses, and budgets. All models are safe, reliable, and built to handle Australia’s weather.

BYD Battery-Box Premium LVL

The BYD Battery-Box Premium LVL is an external inverter-compatible lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. No matter how big the project needs are, the Battery-Box Premium LVL can scale to fulfil them thanks to its control and communication port (BMU). Battery-Box Premium LVL15.4 (15.36 kWh) is the starting point, and it may be expanded at any moment to 983 kWh by connecting up to 64 batteries in parallel. It is possible to stack two LVL batteries on top of one another.
See Datasheet

BYD Battery-Box Premium LVS

An external inverter is required for the BYD Battery-Box Premium LVS, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. With one to six battery modules stacked in parallel, a single Battery-Box Premium LVS can have a useful capacity of 4 to 24.0 kWh in a single tower.

For a maximum capacity of 256 kWh, it can connect up to 16 Battery-Box LVS 16.0 in parallel. Scalability by the addition of LVS modules or later parallel towers with one to four modules.

BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS

The BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS has a useful capacity of 5.1 to 12.8 kWh and is made up of 2 to 5 HVS battery modules connected in series. Furthermore, a maximum capacity of 38.4 kWh is possible with a direct parallel connection of up to three identical Battery-Box Premium HVS.
 See Datasheet

BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM

The BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM has a useful capacity of 8.3 to 22.1 kWh and is made up of 3 to 8 HVM battery modules connected in series. Furthermore, a maximum capacity of 66.2 kWh is possible with a direct parallel connection of up to three identical Battery-Box Premium HVM.
See Datasheet

BYD Battery Box Appears Safe

The BYD Battery Box’s cells use lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.  Even though this is the safest kind of lithium battery, how safe it is will rely on how it is made, how well its components are made, and how carefully it is designed.  The good news is that BYD Battery Boxes appear to be safe as of right now.  I would expect BYD to get this right because they have about thirty years of expertise with lithium batteries.

Hybrid Inverter Required

A compatible battery inverter or hybrid inverter is needed for battery boxes.  Fronius, Goodwe, SMA, Solis and Sungrow are among the inverters on the list of compatible models.  It is also possible to use battery inverters manufactured by Victron and Selectronic in Australia.
